The Building Process

All Hargraves are Custom Built

The concept of a custom designed and custom built yacht seems impossible for most competitors, but at Hargrave, it defines how we do business. Every Hargrave yacht is designed entirely around the individual owner. Before production begins, every detail is customized, from the size and layout, to the power equipment and interiors.

Offering a full line of custom yachts currently between 70’ to 130’, Hargrave has quickly earned a reputation for excellent service, outstanding quality, and complete design flexibility second to none. With our experience and your ingenuity, we can create a distinct and personalized vessel unlike any other. Unlike most custom builders we have developed a proprietary program we call “Custom Designed – Production Built.” This is a cost effective program that involves a full custom design program on the front end and a fast track production build process on the back end, passing the savings along to the client. In effect, you can get a fully custom Hargrave at prices comparable to the top production brands here in the USA – Hatteras, Lazzara, and Westport.

Emblazoned with names like ED’S TOY and SASSY, our yachts are very telling of their owners. We like to think that with every new yacht we complete, we are adding to Hargrave’s already distinguished history.

Well on our way to achieving our initial goal of building 100 custom yachts, and with some owners now on their fourth project with us, you can be sure we now how to make it fun and take the risk and anxiety out of custom building.

How We Take the Risk Out of Custom Building

  • Why is it that so many yachtsmen who start a custom project wish they hadn’t?
  • Why is it that some owners literally wind up owning the boatyard in order to salvage their investment?

With over forty years of experience in this field we know the answers and know how to avoid the mistakes that are common to almost all projects that get in trouble.

Talk to anyone that has built a Hargrave Custom Yacht with us and they will tell you that we bring our projects in on budget every time. If there is a mistake, it’s our mistake not yours. We know how to protect our clients from the misunderstandings that happen all over the world when you use the word “custom.”

Let our experience make the difference for you so you can create a masterpiece that will reward you in a way that no production boat can. Custom owners rank us at the top of satisfaction in this industry and we can show you how to join this elite group and take the risk out of it in the process.

How will my custom built Hargrave be received when I go to sell it?

While some production and custom builders carefully avoid this topic, at Hargrave we know that we have a responsibility to make you aware of the key components of large power boat designs and how the market will determine the resale value of your boat.

In effect, our ability to design and build a custom yacht allows us to anticipate the design trends and equipment changes that will enable you to be offering the “latest and greatest” when putting your boat on the market for resale someday.

We believe the most important single consideration we have when designing a new project is resale. Everything we do in this company from beginning to end is to make sure you not only have an enjoyable experience, but also when the time comes to sell your boat, that you receive the highest return possible. The same things that made our boat “A Deal” in the new boat marketplace are what make it “A Deal” in the used boat marketplace.

Check with Hargrave owners who have sold their boats and they will tell you that by helping to guide you through every step in the construction phase, we help insure the maximum resale value of your boat. We can also show you examples of people who didn’t listen, went their own way and then they paid the price at time of resale — and how those decisions affected their price, as well as the length of time it took to find the next buyer.

Look at the resale history of recent Hargrave boats and you will find they exceed the general market and provide the highest return on investment in our market segment. One 95’ Hargrave raised pilothouse sold three times for the same, or slightly more, than the original owner paid.

Those are just some of the reasons why Hargrave enjoys such an outstanding reputation in the yacht brokerage community. As prominent South Florida yacht broker Jim McConville from International Yacht Collection recently told his fellow brokers, “Go out and get a Hargrave listing, they really make the phone ring.”
