AUGUST IS THE BEST MONTH FOR MAKING MEMORIES.
ARE YOU OUT ON YOUR BOAT WITH YOUR FAMILY THIS MONTH?
I think the best month of the year for making memories with your family has to be August. It’s a special month for everyone – individuals, corporations, and even governments around the world slow down to a trickle so that everyone can enjoy the warm weather with family and friends.

How about you, are you out on your boat with your family and friends this summer? We hope so. Nothing is more fun than the excitement and anticipation that comes with cruising in this great country of ours. Every port is different, every destination brings the chance to explore new shops and attractions, and every dock and marina brings new opportunities to make lasting friends.
After forty years in the boating business I have learned that yachting is not exclusionary; rather it is a unique peer group on water. Every owner has paid the high price of success and done something unique and special in order to be able to afford the magical experience that comes with owning a yacht. Yachting is the ultimate reward for successful people, and maybe it’s about time you rewarded yourself.
We invite you to join our Hargrave family of owners who are cruising all over this great country of ours. From Alaska to Key West and from Maine to the Baja peninsula the stories and snapshots keep coming in every day reminding everyone in our company why we do what we do. We are proud to be part of your life and work hard each day to earn your trust and respect.
This is your time in life. Enjoy it, you’ve earned it!
ANTIQUE BOAT SHOW WEEKEND

The finest collection of Gar Wood's ever assembled in modern times were on display in 2010
One of the real treasures in the Thousand Islands is the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY and the highlights of the summer for us die hard enthusiasts is the Antique Boat Show held the first weekend of August each year.
This year’s event showcased the boats of Gar Wood. You never saw such a magnificent collection of show stoppers. Every one of them was a work of art. Even country music legend Alan Jackson sent up some of his boats for the event. I took some photos of the show yesterday and you can click here to see them or go to the Antique Boat Museum web site. Maybe you can come see it for yourself next summer.
DOCK “LIFE STORIES”
Today was the first Sunday in August here in the 1000 Islands where my wife and I spend our summers. I took the boat to church this morning in Alexandria Bay, and after a nice brunch at Mike Bresnahan’s Admirals Inn Restaurant, we went back to the town dock and Jan went to untie the stern line and “splash” her glasses went into the water.
The dock was full of Canadian cruisers visiting the USA for the weekend and with in a second two guys stopped and said to Jan, “Did you lose your glasses?” In the blink of an eye a second group of Canadian boaters appeared and they all huddled up and decided we needed a mask and breathing tube and one for the children was dispatched to the boat to fetch them. The next thing you know the first guy has his head underwater looking for her glasses without success and then a second Canadian boater strips off his shirt and shorts down to his bathing suit and he goes in completely trying to assist. All of this took place in less than five minutes. As I watched this unfold I kept thinking this is what makes boating so special – it’s a screening device of sorts and all who decide to stay involved are the nicest people on earth.
