PREDICTS RECORD BREAKING YEAR

Addressing an employee luncheon held at the company office earlier today, Hargrave CEO Mike Joyce predicted that the Fort Lauderdale based yacht builder, whose fiscal year begins October 1st, is on track to have a record breaking year in the coming twelve month cycle. In his presentation Joyce explained that his outlook for Hargrave, the boating industry in general, and the US economy were based on several key factors.

“The history of the boating business has repeatedly shown that the only way out of a nose dive recession is to have hot new product available for the consumer” said Joyce, adding that Hargrave will offer five all new models for sale this season. The product roll out begins with a new 125′ raised pilothouse and a 114′ cockpit yacht that will be unloaded in Palm Beach later this week. Joyce said that the 114′, running on a high performance Jack Sarin hull, will offer clients a significant increase in speed and also showcase some new construction technology for the firm.

“We will have more new yachts for sale this year than at any time in our history and what that means is we are is now playing on a level field with competitors like Westport, Hatteras, and Lazzara who have always offered new models and immediate delivery.”

“In times of uncertainly customers don’t want to wait for anything and frankly I don’t blame them. I just bought a new 2013 Lincoln today and I wouldn’t even wait 60 days to build one so they pulled a car with my color and equipment choices from another dealer” he added.

Joyce was quick to emphasize that his company was not abandoning their custom boat building roots. “When clients walk from boat to boat at our display at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in a few weeks they will see and understand that our boats are all different – different exterior designs, different interiors, different hulls shapes, different equipment packages. Our competitive advantage comes from the fact that we are a small family run company and can afford to make the kind of difficult changes that many sophisticated buyers appreciate.” Joyce said the boating industry itself has done a great job of reinventing itself over the past three years citing the Caterpillar engine company as his prime example. “I built this company around Cat power, and we live or die based on their success. Cat has a new engine series that will be unveiled on the boat show circuit later this year that is ideally suited for our size range, and will immediately trigger a wave of new Hargrave designs once the engine series is certified and approved for sale” he said. “Our company has historically pulled over 50% of our new orders from existing Hargrave owners and these new Cat engines will have the kind of “wow factor” that will give our owners a great reason to reorder in the coming year.”

“A gift from Uncle Bennie” is what Joyce called the new Q.E. 3 recently announced by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. “My only major concern when we made the decision to go all in on re-launching the Hargrave Brand two years ago has been the ongoing mortgage crisis, which continued to lurk in the background of the US economy like a ticking time bomb. The mortgage crisis is the 500 lb. canary in the back row of our country and my fear was that the problem might begin to unwind just before the elections. Mr. Bernanke has indicated that’s not going to happen while he is in charge of the Federal Reserve, and I think the breathing room Q.E. 3 will provide in the short run will help the entire boating industry get or more solid footing before the mortgage problem is eventually resolved.”

“The Housing Bubble Has Fully Corrected”

And what does that mean in the world of yachting?

When I read that statement from a trusted news source, Trend Magazine, it really snapped me to attention because I know how closely the boating industry is connected to the housing industry.

You see, the boating industry, myself included, was shocked to find out just how closely the boating industry mirrored the housing industry during this “Great Recession” that began back in 2007.

I bring this up because there have been some very positive changes in the housing industry that are now showing up in the boating industry. My wife, Jan, is a broker with Intercoastal Realty, the waterfront specialists here in Ft. Lauderdale, and their numbers have been surging up every month for the past six months.

Have you been postponing your decision to buy a boat, hoping to avoid getting in just when the market takes another drop? I don’t blame you. Making a timing mistake like that could be expensive when you are talking about buying a yacht because you are talking about a serious investment and who wants to find they made the wrong decision and lost thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars?

The Trends Magazine article on real estate, which snapped me to attention, makes the surprising prediction that housing is now once again a good investment:

“Since the peak of the housing bubble in June 2006, prices have been steadily falling. From June 2007 to December 2008, the national average home price declined by a 13.8 percent average annual rate. Since then, the average price has been slipping by an average of 4.4 percent per year. As a result, housing prices are now at levels not seen since October 2002.

For any type of investment, prices are determined by a complex mix of factors. In the case of the housing market, the primary factors are underlying fundamentals, investors’ access to capital, and investor psychology.

When the house of cards collapsed, just as the Trends editors forecast it would, housing prices, access to capital, and investor confidence all plummeted. However, we are now at the precise point when housing is becoming a sound investment again, for three reasons:

1. The underlying fundamentals show that prices are finally returning to the level at which homes can be bought at a good value.

2. Investor psychology has not yet caught up to this new reality. Put simply, most people still haven’t overcome the trauma of seeing their property values collapse as though their homes were built on quicksand.

3. Even though credit remains tight, there’s a benefit to the scarcity of this resource: The competition for choice properties is virtually non-existent.

The combination of these three factors means that there are plenty of bargains for people who are both ready and able to buy, and yet relatively few people are willing to take advantage of the opportunity. Supply is up, demand is low, and it’s a perfect buyer’s market.”

What I am telling you, and all my friends and Hargrave owners, is that we are seeing similar positive changes in the underlying conditions in the yachting industry.

Banks are back in the game big time with financing readily available at 20% down and the lowest low rates in decades. In fact, banks are now able to turn around jumbo loans in a week or less if you have all your paperwork in order.

Yacht prices have declined across the board during this recession (no more selling a boat for 100% of what you paid after using it for it five years, remember those good old days??) and whether you are talking about a 13′ Whaler or 130′ motoryacht, sellers are now onboard with the new reality and ready to reach out once again to help put deals together.

The supply of vessels on the used market is relatively high at the moment because so many buyers are hesitant to take that last step so you can still find the boat of your dreams at a price you will be happy to pay. And if you prefer the idea of a new boat with full warranty and all the latest technology onboard, then prices are really attractive right now for the same reason.

“Why on earth would I buy a new boat?”

“I don’t even have time to use the boat I have now!”

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that remark from a prospect at a boat show I could retire right now! I always make a point to ask what they mean by that statement and they proceed to describe their career, and all the pressures and responsibilities that are part of their world, and then say with a sad face “I’d really love a new boat Mike but I would never be able to use it.”

If you’re in boating you know just the guy I am talking about. You see some boats that are going out week after week loaded with family and friends having fun on the water while other boats just rock gently in their slips as neighbors’ remark, “Gee I hope everything is ok with Fred, he hasn’t been here in more than a month.”

Why is it that some people see to be able to enjoy fully all that they have accomplished in life while others seem to be trapped by their success, circling the globe, piling up money, but somehow, never smiling, never stopping long enough to catch their breath? I used to be one of those busy people, turning down offers to cruise Europe, South America, and Asia, because I could not leave my business for a second. And then it happened, someone stopped long enough to tell me “The Secret” and my life has never been the same since. Maybe this story will help you.

The Secret by Mike Joyce

I used to own a boatyard in the 1,000 Islands in the 60’s and 70’s and had some of the best times in my life back then. I was sad when I finally sold the business after ten years and went to work for Jack Hargrave in Palm Beach. For the next five years I worked really hard to establish myself and never even made it back for a visit, and then in later years I would go for a long weekend over the 4th of July and Labor Day weekends.

That was my pattern until one day in August of 1992 when I ran into Bob Cox who was our mayor here in Ft. Lauderdale and also owned the Lauderdale Marina. But I really knew Bob the best as one of those “rich summer people” who came to the 1000 Islands in early summer and stayed until fall. I have to be honest, when I lived up there I was really jealous of those “rich summer people”, they all just seemed so happy and gay, I felt like I was watching a scene out of the Great Gatsby movie with Robert Redford.

All of that changed that fateful day in August when I was standing outside the Antique Boat Museum dressed in a sport coat and tie getting ready to go to the Syracuse airport and Bob Cox came out of the Museum and asked what I was doing. I said I was flying back to work in Ft. Lauderdale and he asked in all seriousness “Why?”

I said because I didn’t know his “secret”, how he could own a business in Florida and yet spend his summers in the 1000 Islands. Bob looked at me with that big smile of his and asked, “Mike would really you like to know my secret?” I assured him I would and he took me over to a bench where we sat down and he looked me right in the eyes and then asked, “If I tell you the secret will you listen?” I assured him I would!

At that moment Bob leaned in close, lowered his voice, and then almost whispered, “Here’s the secret – there’s never a good time to leave your business Mike – ever!” In that flash of a second I understood exactly what he meant.

Bob told me that back in the 1950’s he made up his mind that he would spend each summer on the St. Lawrence River with his wife and children, and whatever the price of that decision was, he was prepared to pay it. For sixty years now he has done that. He told me in great detail about the early years when every time he went to pack up the car there was always some crisis, some emergency that tried to hold him back, but every summer he went.

As he got up to walk away Bob looked back and said, “Mike, there’s never a good time to leave for the River, one day you just make up your mind you’re going to go, and you go.” For 19 years now Jan and I have spent every summer on the River with family and friends, and just as Bob promised, many summers were filled with emergencies, crises, and problems that tried to hold me back but failed because I now had the magic secret. Success is a journey not a destination and our happiness only comes in those moments when we stop long enough to enjoy the blessings we have. Thank you Bob Cox!!

When she was launched Alcan News described the Thousand Islander as a riverboat with the efficiency of a Boeing 747 and the looks of the Queen Mary!

“I remember when this boat first sailed through the Thousand Islands” said Hargrave CEO Mike Joyce, “nobody could believe that a boat this size could cruise at those speeds and not throw a huge wake. You literally had to slow to a crawl when competing boats like the Adonis from the American Boat Lines in Clayton came down the channel.” Mr. Joyce’s summer cottage is on the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence River and said he sees this boat go by his window every morning!

We were excited to see that Miami Dolphins legend (and former Hargrave owner) Jason Taylor will joined the ESPN Networks as a broadcaster this season. “Jason was one of the classiest guys we ever worked for” said Hargrave CEO Mike Joyce, adding “Jason Taylor was the NFL Defensive Player of The Year which confirms his incredible athletic abilities, but more important he was selected as the NFL’s Man of The Year which speaks volumes about his character and integrity.” Taylor and his wife Katina created the 99′ Hargrave KATINA (shown here under construction at the yard) which was a benchmark project for the Hargrave firm. Hargrave takes great pride in the accomplishments of the owners we serve.

Overview

“Former Hargrave Chief Engineer Dies”

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Hargrave Custom Yachts CEO Michael Joyce announced that Ralph Cantlay, former Vice President of Engineering at the company, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2012.  Born and raised in California, Mr. Cantlay was a lifelong fisherman and former member of the Catalina Tuna Club.

Cantlay, who retired from the Hargrave organization in 2005, was instrumental in helping manage the transition from a yacht design and engineering firm based in West Palm Beach to the current business model which designs and builds custom yachts in the 70′-135′ size range under the Hargrave brand name. He also served as the team leader for the first new design created by the Hargrave Yacht Design office after Jack Hargrave’s death, a 45’ aluminum sport fishing boat featured on the cover of Power & Motoryacht Magazine and described as a breakthrough design because of her 2500-mile range, advanced mechanical systems, and Subchapter T structural engineering.

In a career spanning more than 50 years, Mr. Cantlay served as a plant manager for Chrysler Corporation in California, Vice President of Manufacturing for the Prestige Cookware Group in London, England, Mechanical Engineering for Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and as Vice President of Sales for G.H. Bettis Company in Houston.

He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California in 1950 and his MBA from Harvard University in 1956. Mr. Cantlay was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, as well as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.  Mr. Cantlay served twice in the military as a gunnery sergeant in World War II with the United States Marine Corp’s 1st Division receiving a Purple Heart Commendation while serving in the Pacific, and again during the Korean War while serving as a Captain with the U.S. Army Ordinance Division.

He is survived by his friend and long time companion Margaret Croxton, Executive Director of the Marina Mile Association. Burial services will be handled by the Neptune Society in Fort Lauderdale and memorial donations can be made to your favorite charity.

Salon

As you enter the double teak doors to the salon, the entire open plan salon/galley is before you.  On the starboard side, sofa seating is built in with storage beneath; a custom cocktail table provides storage for wine or other articles.  On the port side is the cabinetry that houses the main entertainment system and LCD TV.  Media storage and the salon electrical panel are also located here.  The chilled water air conditioning flows through the soffits on each side at the headliner, providing cool ambient temperature.

Salon Aft

This view shows the dinette and seating together with the galley bar and pedestal seating.  The countertop is light weight granite bordered with teak to create a soft look and function as a drip molding.  The dimmable lights in the headliner add task as well as mood lighting to the entire area.

Galley

This low profile full function galley is wonderful to work in.  Front loading refrigerator freezers are custom stainless steel, with remote compressors.  This gives more storage and is quiet.  A built in dish drawer cleans up the dishes or pots and pans held out of sight.  A halogen cook top and a convection microwave round out the chefs gear.  An ice machine is at the end of the counter for easy access to the glass storage and bar area.  The cabinets are deep and plentiful for all the pantry space and dishware.  A custom woven glass back splash accents the décor.

Master Stateroom

Book matched and sequenced teak is the venue for this spacious stateroom.  Full hanging lockers and chest of drawers are a part of this living area.  A reading lounge and port light make this an inviting area.  Chilled water air conditioning flows quietly from the o head soffit.  Reading lights and overhead lights are controlled from the bed side built in tables.

Master Bath

A large sink and vanity area is flanked on one side by storage cabinets and a full shower with Rain Fixture on the other.  The marine toilet is by Headhunter and is fresh water flush.  The area has extraction fans and air conditioning duct.  The sole is custom laid teak.

VIP Stateroom

The queen sized berth is centered forward to give maximum space and ease of entry to this comfortable bed.  The base lifts with gas shock assist for access to storage.  A full hanging locker and drawer space together with the port and starboard cabinets provide for clothes as well as ships gear.  A LCD TV is mounted flush on the port side and a settee is to starboard.  This stateroom also has a full shower and marine toilet.

Guest Bunk Room

This accommodation has upper and lower full twin size bunks, chilled water air conditioning, hanging locker and a full shower and marine toilet.

Engine Room

Here is where it all happens-from the twin 27.5 kw auxiliary generators to the powerful 16V2000, M91, 2000 HP MTU main engines.  Not only is the power produced, but transmitted to the propeller via a Sea Torque Drive System.  This innovative drive transfers more of the developed horsepower to the propellers than conventional drives.  The technology reduces noise and vibration as well.  The entire space is fire protected with an automatic FM-200 fire suppression system which, when activated, closes the air intakes, shuts down the blowers, generators, and main engine prior to the discharges of the agent.  Of course this may be over ridden by the Captain.  Just aft of the engine room is the machinery space.  The main shore power panel, air conditioning chillers, D.C. panel and equipment control switches are located here in easily accessible panels.

Created by Tom Fexas, one of America’s leading naval architects, for a personal friend  to use in cruising the Florida Keys and Bahamas, QUIET SUN was designed with a double master cabin layout which is very unusual in this size range.

The luxury interior décor was created under the direction of noted mega yacht designer Shelly DiCondina of Yacht Interiors by Shelley and includes a number of features normally found only on yachts in the 100’ and larger range.

This one of a kind yacht will impress you with her level of luxury and her distinctive styling. She offers you an impressive technologically advanced machinery and equipment package riding on a soft riding Fexas hull and powered by reliable CAT engines so you can enjoy years of safe and reliable cruising pleasure.

In addition to the upgraded Caterpillar engine package QUIET SUN has several signature design features such as overhead air conditioning vent systems, double door entryway to the master cabin, full size Headhunter toilets in both master and VIP suites, high end marble and granite counters throughout, polished hardwood cherry wood floors, and high end European hardware and fixtures that add to the feel of luxury throughout. Under the guidance of designer Shelley DiCondina we have created a custom yacht-like interior in both design and execution. If you are moving down from a larger mega yacht this yacht will meet your expectations.

Salon

The main salon is spacious and warm with calming accent colors throughout, such as featured on the chocolate brown full grain Aniline dyed leather sofa to port, with accent pillows in chocolate and celadon blue.  The interior specifications of this vessel were very well though out and executed. The sense of refinement and sophistication aboard this vessel is unmatchable for any boat in this size range. Found throughout the main salon and the extended living areas is a high-gloss cherry wood with a contemporary cross graining and Camphor Burl wood accent panels.  Another foundation of the interior spaces includes a textured sisal carpeting in natural tones.  Seating is satisfied with the L-shaped leather sofa to port and a pair of armchairs to starboard.  Plenty of hidden storage, accent items, a coffee table, and the helm station forward and to starboard complete this space.

Galley

Gorgeous high gloss cherry wood continues into the forward galley, located just steps down from the main salon. Here “Indian Parana” granite counter tops extend into a backsplash, which sparkles against the warm wood cabinets and stunning satin finished cherry wood flooring.  Stainless steel appliances, Grohe fixtures and an improved open layout make this 2007 custom yacht highly desirable.

Master Stateroom

The master stateroom is located to starboard across from the galley. Here the color theme is that of driftwood and pale blues with rich chocolate accents.  The queen berth is fitted with luxurious fabrics in this eye-catching color scheme. High gloss cherry wood is found here dispersed among a textured cane wall upholstery in a simple sandy taupe color. All the comforts of home are found in this luxurious stateroom, including an en suite master head. The master head has a full shower, cherry wood storage cabinets, and a vanity featuring “Noisette Fleuryl” marble.  This yacht is designed for the cruising couple who enjoys long weekends and plenty of relaxation.

VIP Stateroom

The VIP Stateroom is forward and features a queen-sized v-berth fitted with elegant cream-colored bedding. Organic colors and textures make up this elegant stateroom.  The VIP also features an en suite head.  The same level of refinement found in the Master is recreated in the VIP – Such details as a marble vanity in the VIP head and gorgeous high-gloss cherry wood throughout help accomplish this.

Cockpit

The cockpit offers a space for outdoor enjoyment. Aft, a large seating bench is finished in a mushroom color and creates a perfect space for watching the sunset or enjoying an evening cocktail.  Durable and warm teak wood makes up the sole. A ladder up to the open flybridge is found to port.

Flybridge

The Flybridge has an open design, with twin Stidd Helm Chairs, rear bench seat, large chart table and refrigerator creating a space for you entertain in style while navigating in complete comfort. You will find the finest navigational equipment available in the market today aboard QUIET SUN.

Mike Joyce, CEO of Hargrave Custom Yachts, was invited to be one of the judges for the annual Metal Craft Marine employee boat race in Kingston, Ontario on September 24th. As part of the annual family picnic five teams of employees designed and fabricated an aluminum boat in two hours and competed in an obstacle course race with liberal use of fire boat hoses to add to the excitement.  It was great fun for all the team members and their families. Mike Joyce said when you saw the interaction among the staffers, their families, and invited guests, you really got a sense of just how much of a family business this unique organization is. Mike Joyce called them the premiere builder of mid-sized aluminum commercial craft and said the company was poised for dramatic growth in the next five years. Coincidentally, MetalCraft is now moving their US operation to the marina Mike owned in Cape Vincent, NY back in the 1960′s-1970′s.

“In this short 11 minute documentary narrated by Tom Hanks, director Eddie Rosenstein tells the story of the greatest sea evacuation of people in history after the attack on New York City on September 11, 2001. In less than 9 hours an impromptu armada of private boats, ferries, fishing boats, dinner cruise boats, and government boats came together with no plan or prior experience and evacuated 500,000 people from lower Manhattan to safety. As you listen to the stories, you realize as one captain said, “There’s a little bit of hero in all of us, you just have to look for it, it will come out.”

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE?

Everybody wants their boat for summer, but when you see a builder actually deliver four supper yachts for summer it really makes you take your hat off and salute that accomplishment. When we read in Boat International that Heesen had delivered four superyachts this summer and seven in the last twelve months it really made us sit up and take notice. The yachts shown in the article are so big, so complicated, and yet so delicate on the inside that delivering even one yacht for summer is a feat and four is truly amazing.

Mike Joyce

Andre J. Bauwens former chief naval architect of J. B. Hargrave Naval Architects, Inc. in West Palm Beach died on June 29, 2011. In making the announcement Michael Joyce, CEO of the J.B. Hargrave Corporation called Bauwens one of the key people responsible for building the company’s outstanding reputation in yacht design and engineering.

Born in Brussels in 1929 Bauwens moved to the United States in 1956 where he graduated from the Westlawn Design Institute prior to starting his career working for the MacLear & Harris design firm in New York. He moved to Florida and joined Hall of Fame designer Jack Hargrave in West Palm Beach in 1966.

Bauwens served as chief naval architect of the Hargrave yacht design section and also wrote the specifications for all new yacht designs. During his tenure Bauwens created the comprehensive company design manual which is still in use today and which helped ensure that all the designers at the firm incorporated the high the standards set by Jack Hargrave into each new project.

A resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Bauwens was a passionate sailor and maintained a lifelong love of gardening and a commitment to the welfare of all animals. He is survived by his wife Mariette.

Hargrave Offered Ten Mega Yachts in Miami Beach

Sales of both new and used Hargrave yachts have continued at a steady pace throughout winter and the company had to make changes to their line up four times after announcing their line up for Miami back in December. The company said their exciting line up of yachts at the display at their show location was very popular with show attendees.

Michael DiCondina, president of Hargrave said the company had ten yachts on display including a couple of recent trade-ins. “This is really the perfect market conditions for both buyers and sellers” he said, “sellers have finally lowered their prices to meet the market and there are plenty of buyers out there at the right price. The buyers are really happy to be getting their boat at a price they think is fair and the sellers are now free to move on and start looking for their next boat. We keep reminding our sellers that while they may be getting less than they hoped for in selling their boat, the price of their next one will be less as well so if they are staying in boating it all tends to balance out.”

The 135’ 2011 model Hargrave Tri-Deck DREAMER, the new queen of the Hargrave fleet, will not be on display for the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show at the end of this month. The ship that was contracted to return the boat to the US was delayed. While disappointed, Mike DiCondina, president of Hargrave, said that the line up will include an all new 101′ Hargrave Raised Pilothouse with country kitchen and lots of new design ideas that will excite the loyal fans of Hargrave yachts.

My wife and I spent the last week in August cruising with old friends Frank & Sally Atlass aboard their Maine built 52’ custom Lyman Morris motoryacht. We arrived in Portland to find the 84’ Hargrave MOBILLITY in the next slip. The week before our visit I received an email from the 101′ NAMASTE that there were so many Hargraves at the Carousel Yacht Club & Marina in Boothbay Harbor that it looked like a rendezvous.

As we sailed into Newport after a delightful three day visit to Nantucket we saw the 97’ Hargrave COCKTAILS and at the next marina the 115’ Hargrave MISSY B II, and finally at the Newport Shipyard we saw the 100’ Hargrave SEAFARER and the 97’ Hargrave HUNTRESS tied up together. It really made a statement about the success of our program at Hargrave, but even more important, it made a statement about the owners and captains we have been so fortunate to attract. Every boat looked as good as or better than the day we delivered it which not only helps the value of their individual boat but helps the value of all Hargraves as well. It really made me proud.

Bing O’Meara, Editor & Publisher of Lakeland Boating, recently came to South Florida to catch the premiere of the all new 76′ Hargrave flush deck ANA C before she began her trip south to her home port in Puerto Rico. O’Meara called the new ANA C “a pocket megayacht” and said the four stateroom plus crew layout was a real accomplishment in the under 80′ category. O’Meara selected the yacht for the cover of Lakeland Magazine in the December issue.

Ray Murray, Tampa Bay industrialist, builds new Hargrave

Ray Murray, the Tampa Bay industrialist made the decision to build the first Hargrave built motoryacht 87′ Hargrave Sky Lounge HOUND DOG. He stopped by the Hargrave offices to visit with Mike D, Mike Joyce, and Rosemary Joyce. “Mr. Ray” is busier than ever and he was in Ft. Lauderdale with his son Michael to work out the details on a new acquisition.

Delbert McClinton Sandy Beach Cruise

Former lead singer of the Mavericks and now one of the top solo acts in the country Raul Malo, joins Jan and Mike Joyce aboard the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beach Cruise earlier this year. This cruise has become an annual pilgrimage for Mike Joyce who spent his early career in the music business in NYC.

United States Congressman Ron Klein Leads Way for Yachting Industry

Mike Joyce shown here with United States Congressman Ron Klein at the Rosceoli Yachting Center in Ft. Lauderdale.  Congressman Klein led the successful effort to remove the boating business from the requirements of the Federal Longshoreman’s Act. “This was probably the top single issue for our industry and to see someone do that in their first term was frankly amazing when you consider how many decades we had worked on it,” said Joyce.
